Cinder by Marissa MeyerMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Another book set in the very distant future of Earth with a twist on the classic story of Cinderella. Although very different from the classic fairy tale, Cinder being a cyborg, is like Cinderella in the sense that "Cinder is a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, and reviled by her stepmother...But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future."
Upon starting this book, I expected another futuristic novel with a really broken down protagonist who must save the day as well as a mushy teen romance. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the character of Cinder and her development throughout the novel. Although she has had a rough life, she is a very like able and hardy character, very different from the typical fairy tale princess.
The story it self is very intriguing, although a little predictable, but non-the less I found it unique and couldn't help getting sucked into the world that Marissa Meyer's created. As soon as I finished it, I went to find the next one, only to be disappointed to find it is not yet published. Sad day.
