Babe's room part 2: Child's mobile

Have you ever heard of American sculpture and artist Alexander Calder? That is really a rhetorical question for you to ponder and look up. He is a really fascinating artist. I could tell you all about him, but you should just go read about it yourself. Really, go and read. I think often we over look and forget about our fellow and past American artists-or don't even know any of them. I know I did until I took my American Humanities class (well, let's be honest, I forgot most of it)....and you're probably now wondering what this has to do with my little babe's room? right? Well, quite a bit actually. Alexander Calder was the one who invented this idea of mobiles or "delicate sculptures which derived their motion from the air currents in the room" (wikipedia.org).

So there you have it; a quick lesson in art history that clearly affects us still today. Because of Calder, our little munchkins now have the opportunity to look at something awesome over their bed while going to sleep.

Here is the mobile that we (the hubs helped) made for our little munchkin. My brother called it Wombats and Nerfs, so I decided that shall be it's official name.

I actually think it looks like an alien spaceship; all it needs is the cow being beamed up in the middle. Maybe I'll find some cow toy and do just that.
I think the Lukester likes it, but I'm pretty sure that I stare at it much more than he does. So...I guess it should really be hanging over my bed. hmm...

  1. I admit that the first thing I thought when I saw it was, erm, weird... then I REALLY looked at it, and oh my word- fantastic! Such a cool mobile
